History
Early Life
Born on the Shi'ido home world Lao-mon, Amaya grew up wondering what the different creatures of the galaxy were like. Like many of her kind, she could not resist the urge to leave her planet to study about the different species and cultures the galaxy had to offer. For this reason, she left her home world long before she was an adult, which is considered to be the age of 61 for a Shi'ido, to explore various worlds. She wandered for a few years along the Outer Rim, spending time getting to know the human race, while learning their language. While this was a good start for her, she knew that there were many other species out there, just waiting for her to find. During the course of planning her next move, she stumbled upon something she saw as a glorious opportunity... A slave market.
Slaver Years
Using her natural shape shifting abilities, Amaya took the form of a young, beat down street urchin and went about begging for food right through the center of the market. It was not long at all until she was picked up by an elderly slaver named Kris. She expected him to take her in as a slave, like all the other slavers would have, but instead he took her to his ship and gave her a small meal. While she ate, he sat there, just staring at the little girl in front of him. After she was done eating, he started to ask her about her family. Amaya reassured him that she had no family, and he then offered to take her in. Realizing that this would be a great way to learn about the species of the galaxy, she accepted his offer. She would spend the next 10 years of her life living as a Slaver merchant, assisting Kris whenever needed. It wasn't an easy life, but it was worth it to Amaya. Each and every slave that came through Kris' possession was another tidbit about the galaxies culture she learned. She quickly picked up multiple languages, and learned about various home worlds. She was living a good life, until a fateful day when Kris, the old slave trader that had taken her in, finally passed away.
Moving Coreward
After the death of the man Amaya had been living with for over 10 years, she decided to start moving Coreward. Using some of the money she got from selling Kris' ship, she managed to secure passage to the core world of Alderaan. When she arrived, she shedded the body she had been using for the greater part of ten years in favor of a new one. Gone was the little street urchin turned slave trader. Instead she replaced it in favor of a more fashionable look. A young attractive women wearing stylish clothes. And thought the clothes would change into robes and she would allow herself to age slightly, this would be the body she primarily used for the next 70 years.
Life on Alderaan
After getting settled in, Amaya immediately started to look for chances to get into a line of work that would again let her rub shoulders with some of the many races of the galaxy. After searching for work for only a couple of days, she was lucky enough to secure a position as a assistant to one of a senator's advisers. She spent the next 10 years of her life traveling to and from Coruscant to assist in various political things. Unfortunately for him, the adviser died from unknown causes during one bitter night. And even though Amaya mourned the loss of the man she has been working under for 10 years, the senator requested that she stays on as a member of his advisory committee. Amaya accepted this offer, and would have continued on this path for awhile if not for a meeting of chance.
Joining the Order
During one of dozens of the redundant meetings that would happen every time the Senator landed on Alderaan, a Mon Calamari Jedi Master by the name of Almin Mak noticed there was something strange about Amaya. Not only did he sense a strong Force connection within her, but also sensed an aged wisdom far greater then her body showed. After the meeting, Almin approached her and asked her a simple question, “Who are you?” Amaya started to ramble off the same back story she had used time after time, but stopped mid-sentence. She was sick of lying, she was sick of the secrets, and though she loved her current life, she was sick of keeping her old lives a secret. She opened up to Master Mak, telling him everything. They stood there for hours, talking about everything and nothing, making small talk while also talking about the secrets of the universe. After they were done, they looked at each other for a great while until Almin finally offered to take her to the Jedi Temple to train under him. They were on the next shuttle. Life as a Padawan
Amaya's training was unconventional to say the least. Master Mak was an amazing teacher, but his lessons were scarce, and Amaya was left to her own most of the time. She filled these gaps in one of two ways. Sometimes she would sit into the lessons from other Masters, and most of the time they would be happy to have her, but mostly she would fill the gaps with knowledge from the Jedi Archives. It took all of two weeks for her to befriend the Chief Librarian and to convince her to allow Amaya more lenient access to the vast amounts of information. This information became the core of Amaya'sprogress, and it allowed her to accomplish her original goal for leaving home... To get to know about the various creatures in the galaxy. For she did not limit herself to information relevant to her Jedi Training, instead working off the principle that all knowledge has a chance of being used. Eventually Amaya progressed to a point where she was allowed to accompany her Master on various missions, but she would still visit the Archives in her down time. Yet even with her training going quickly, she was in no hurry to become a Jedi Knight, again believing that she should learn all she had to learn before moving on.
