Personality
Born on the planet Talravin, Crowlis is a strong-minded practician of the Force and Lightsaber combat, he has been trained to strike balance between the Force and the Saber, but is known throughout the order for being an exceptional duellist. Also known as a great tactician, Crowlis has lead many Jedi through battle, while commanding the Force by means of Battle Meditation.
Crowlis tends to be an approachable member of the Order and is always willing to offer his thoughts on various matters within the Jedi, and will never deny the help requested by padawans and trainees of the Order. Crowlis spends most of his time now perfecting his abilities for when the inevitable attack from the Sith approaches.
History
Early Life (Born 3,701 BBY)
Crowlis grew up on the planet Talravin, a very hot planet that has regular sand-storms. His parents weren't the richest, but were comfortable enough to live life with little hassle from local gangs. Until one day when Crowlis was five, a Bounty Hunter barged into Crowlis's home and murdered his parents, laughing and uttering "A large payout coming my way", Crowlis revealed himself, and to the Bounty Hunters surprise, he was suddenly propelled backward, smashing through the wall and out onto the street. With an unusual man robed in grey standing over him, the 'grey' man muttered the words "No claim for you" and proceeded to stab his Lightsaber into the heart of the hunter. The man warned Crowlis that more would come to 'claim' Crowlis if he didn't leave with him, he assured Crowlis he would be safe with him and with that said, they both retreated to the large spaceport that dominated the centre of the city in which Crowlis lived. The man revealed his name to Crowlis as "Karnas", with that said, they both headed into a smallish freighter coated in silver, so bright it hurt the eyes. The loading ramp closed and they took to the sky, in an instant, they were gone.
They touched down on the planet Anaxes an ecumenopolis planet and also Karnas's homeworld. It was the perfect 'hideout' planet for a grey Jedi to live. Anaxes was a big change for Crowlis, from a city on a planet with a hot climate complete with sand-storms to a planet covered by an entire city with temperatures much colder than what Crowlis was used to. It was here that he learnt about the Force and the vital reason why Karnas sought him out. Crowlis was Force Sensitive, and with great pleasure, Karnas took Crowlis as his Padawan.
Becoming a Padawan (3,696 BBY)
After landing on Anaxes, and Crowlis was settled, Karnas told Crowlis of the Force, what it is and how it binds all living things, he went on to inform Crowlis that he was Force Sensitive, and quite highly at that. Karnas said he would train him in the ways of the force to protect himself and others in need. He detailed both sides of the Force, the light and the dark. Karnas explained that he sits in-between these two sides, and considers himself more grey, than light or dark. He said it would up to Crowlis whether in future he follows this path, or leans toward either light or dark. But warns the consequences of both, with dark clearly not appealing to Crowlis. After a brief explanation of the Jedi, Sith and the Force, Crowlis's training began immediately.
For 14 long years, Crowlis studied deeply into the force and the Jedi. He trained in Lightsaber combat frequently with Karnas, and even began to master the art of Battle Meditation. It was unfortunate however, that Crowlis's mentor, Karnas, was sick, with a rare death threatening illness that is incurable. One day during Crowlis's studies, Karnas informed him that it was time, the time that Karnas told Crowlis about, it was time for Karnas to pass on. Karnas told Crowlis important details, he must defeat the Sith, alongside the Jedi, Karnas admitted to Crowlis he was wrong, and that there is always a side grey Jedi follow, whether they believe it or not, and in the vital last minutes of his life Karnas had to convince his pupil something that contradicts everything he taught him previously. He told Crowlis he must seek out the Jedi on Corucant, they will know he is coming and they will help him 'into' knighthood. He also mentioned something was coming, and that many Jedi would die, it was inevitable, and there was nothing that could be done other than be prepared for it. He spoke of war, The Great War...
Acceptance Into The Jedi Order (3,682 BBY)
Crowlis, then nineteen, travelled to the Jedi Temple on Corucant to inform the Masters of the order of Karnas's death and his vision of war. The Council were surprised by this and set out to find the truth. Crowlis was accepted into the Order, the Council knew he had been trained from a young age by a respectful ally of the Jedi, and therefore immediately promoted him to Padawan.
For months, Crowlis refused the offers for apprenticeship, feeling it would be disrespectful to Karnas. But one night Crowlis was presented with a dream, with Karnas telling him to be wise, further training from a master of the actual order is vital if he is to progress. As Crowlis awakened, he realised that Karnas was right, he needed to let go and accept the help offered.
With this decision, he was appointed a master, his master's name was Kai'Rae a Human master who's last Padawan was murdered by a Dark Jedi on the planet of Dathomir, during a mission to investigate the disappearance of a treasure protector.
Initially Crowlis and Kai didn't take well to each other, but after several or so missions together they connected and realised that a bond was between them. Both testing each others abilities whilst on missions, they created many situations where they placed themselves in danger to try to impress each other, they were well suited to each other. Some may have said they were reckless, but really they were just child like. Over the course of a year, Crowlis and Kai built a substantial friendship, not just as master and apprentice, but by other means as well. Jedi relationships weren't shunned upon, but weren't exactly praised. Jedi have loved before, and those who lose their companion will show emotion, and can fall down the dark path. For Jedi whose relationships are accepted, normally would be able to control their emotions, should something dreadful arise. "There is no emotion, there is peace", is one of the primary lines of the Jedi code. Crowlis and Kai's relationship however remained a secret, as most master and apprentice relationships do, due to the chance of being reallocated another master to train you.
As Crowlis turned twenty, the news of war was delivered to the Jedi Council. Karnas's vision was correct, war was coming, many Jedi will die, much pain will be caused, and worst of all, no side is the clear victor. "The Great War", a war between Jedi and Sith, it had began...
The Great War (Began 3,681 BBY)
The Battle of Sluis Van
With the recent emerge of war, the Jedi had received word that the Sith were to attack the shipyards of Sluis Van. The council decided to send Crowlis and Kai'Rae to the battle. Not knowing how large the Sith's forces would be. There they were to attempt to halt the destruction of the shipyards. Crowlis and Kai'Rae set off immediately for Sluis Van.
As they entered Sluis Van space, they saw ahead of them the main space station. With docking permission granted, they boarded the station. They urged the port official to allow them to see station commander. Claiming the Sith were to attack to the shipyards. The port official allowed them entry, and they made their way for a meeting with the commander. During the meeting Kai'rae and Crowlis detailed the events and what was to happen. They told the commander that there was a strong possibility that the station would have to be evacuated, but without warning the Sith entered Sluis Van space and boarded the station. The Jedi told the commander to depart from the station, and take everyone he could with him, and they would attempt to halt the sith.
Crowlis and Kai'Rae made their way through the station fighting the Sith, who had teams planting detonators around the station. But before long, Sith masters had boarded the station and had engaged Crowlis and Kai in combat, they both fought gallantly, but were no match for the Sith's increasing numbers. They had to retreat to their ship, there was nothing they could do to defend the shipyards. With their attempt of defence muted, they fired up the engines of their ship, and fled the station. They were fired upon by sith fighters, but the defences of Kai'Rae's ship were enough to get them into hyperspace. With which they narrowly escaped death.
Battle of Manaan
Shortly after the failed attempt to halt the Sith's attacks on the Sluis Van Shipyards. Crowlis and Kai'Rae were thrown into conflict once more. The Sith had begun to dominate the tranquil water world of Manaan. The Selkath were already fighting a losing battle, but the least the Jedi could do was to help evacuate the surviving Selkath to their ancient villages, deep on the ocean floor.
When Crowlis and Kai arrived on Manaan, they were brutally attacked by a group of Sith Masters. They both managed to diminish the Sith, just narrowly escaping the attack. As they both made their way through Ahto City, they encountered many Selkath, who they immediately aided in evacuating from the city.
The Sith proceeded to bomb Ahto City, with the north section being claimed to the ocean. As the Jedi made their escape, they met up with other Jedi that were sent to Manaan to aid the Selkath. The newly formed group of Jedi headed to Kai'Rae's ship, as the other Jedi's ship was destroyed during landing.
The group of Jedi arrived at the docking bay, they entered the ship, fired up the engines, and took to the sky as the flaming remains of Ahto City sank beneath the ocean. The Sith had won once again.
A Break From War
After the defeat on Manaan, Crowlis and Kai'Rae were allowed a resting period. This gave Crowlis time to continue his training. He pleaded with Kai'Rae continuously, for her to complete his training with Ataru, as that was his signature form. Kai'Rae eventually budged, and Crowlis's training with Ataru continued. For nine years Crowlis continued studying the forth form, reaching mastery. The council declared him the fastest Jedi to master Ataru to date. He then became known be his peers as the Master of Ataru, being able to hold his own even against some of the superior council members.
With these recent developments, the council decreed that Crowlis was ready to take the trials for Knighthood, should Kai'Rae approve. Kai, with a stern decision, declined, claiming one more thing that she must teach Crowlis before she allowed her knight worthy padawan the chance to take the trials. Kai'Rae, one of the few surviving Masters of Juyo, wished to pass down her knowledge to Crowlis, training him to master the ferocious form. The council deliberated the request, at first declining, claiming the form be too dangerous and prone to dark emotions. But Kai'Rae eventually convinced the council by stating that the form would die if none of the Juyo masters could pass down their knowledge of the form. The council reluctantly agreed and granted Kai permission to train Crowlis to master the seventh form.
After fifteen long years of studying Juyo, Kai'Rae considered Crowlis to have mastered the form. The council also agreed that he had progressed to the best of his ability, but he would have to continue his use of Form VII well into knighthood before the council designated Crowlis the title of Juyo master.
The Sacking of Coruscant
With more free time on their hands Crowlis and Kai spent allot of their time combat training. But one day during a sparring match between Crowlis and his master, a loud explosion was heard. They both felt a disturbance in the force as many Jedi were killed in a single bombing. They both exited the training room immediately and departed from the temple to see many sith attack ships firing upon the Jedi Temple. The Sith had brought their onslaught to the capital of Coruscant, and they were just a minority, there was not allot they could do to defend the temple. But with their oath to the republic and the Jedi, they courageously led groups of Jedi against the Sith.
After hours of fighting, more and more Jedi fell, their numbers were decreasing massively. And before long, hundreds of Jedi and Sith were in the courtyard of the Jedi temple, as a great duel occurred in front of the statues of the four masters, Crowlis and Kai'Rae were apart of this great duel.
With the falling numbers of the Jedi, Crowlis and Kai'Rae had to retreat, if they were to stay they would surely be killed. The retreated to the lower regions of Coruscant. But along the way they were ambushed by a Sith assassin. They both did not sense the attack until it was too late. The assassin drove his lightsaber through the back of Kai'Rae, before he proceeded to strike swiftly to Crowlis's legs using a Jung Ma. He defended himself by performing sai, then in anger performed a Sai Tok from the shoulder to waist, killing the assassin.
Crowlis rushed over to his struck master. She told him that he would be a great Jedi, that he had to be strong and not let her death affect his allegiance to the Jedi. If he fell he would only be turning into the scum that killed her. With a faint smile, her last words were "I love you Crow..."
Crowlis then carried Kai'Rae to his ship, when he left her until he departed from Coruscant. He now knew that he had to destroy the Sith for what they have done to the galaxy, and Kai'Rae. It wouldn't matter how long it would take him, he would eventually get vengeance for Kai.
Making his way back toward the Jedi Temple, Crowlis noticed no sign of fighting. He walked the grounds of the temple noticing a few Jedi mourning for the dead. Before long, the Jedi admitted defeat to the Sith, and the treaty of Coruscant was signed.
By the end of the war, thousands of Jedi were dead. The Galactic Republic focused its anger on the Jedi, blaming the order for its defeat at the hands of the Sith. Though they were still committed to defending the Republic, the surviving Jedi chose to return to their homeworld of Tython.
Knighthood
Shortly after the treaty of coruscant was signed and the majority of the Jedi relocated to Tython, Crowlis decided to travel to the close moon of Tython, alongside another group of Jedi that were to create a smaller academy there, to train more recruits to eventually fight against the sith.
It was here that the smaller academy known as the Knights of Sokan, formally assigned Crowlis the title of Jedi Knight. He initially decided to hold off on taking a padawan. First dealing with his own personal grief for the loss of his former master. He held his own ritual for Kai'Rae, travelling back to Tython to spread her ashes upon the Great Lake near to the Jedi Enclave. She would be at peace there.
Return To Action
Bitter Relations
Returning back to the Sokan enclave on the small moon of Tython, it seems the Jedi were soon thrown back into their old ways, as they were called to a negations mission to Tatooine in the city of Anchorhead. A medium group of Jedi gathered aboard Master Solemor's cruiser, The Bilon and headed for Tatooine. En-route they were ambushed by the Sith, crash landing into the Dune Sea on Tatooine. Before the Jedi could make preparations, Sith assassins boarded the vessel, whilst a selection of Jedi including Crowlis were in the medbay healing the injured of the crash. The assassins raided the medbay, one engaging combat with Jedi Master Noon Flux, and the other engaging Jedi Padawan Sacre and Crowlis, they fought ferociously, as Crowlis made attempts to perform multiple Shiim's to many areas of the Sith's body.
Forms of A Jedi
This is a timeline of the forms that Crowlis has learnt since the beginning of his training with Karnas.
(3,696 BBY) Initial training with how to wield a single lightsaber. Basic aspects of Niman are taught to gain a balanced knowledge of lightsaber combat, and for the option to include the force into his saber combat. Karnas was also a master Niman, so was ideal for Crowlis to learn.
(3,695 BBY) After a year of learning aspects of Niman, Crowlis began to take an interest in Karnas's choice of weapon, a Double-bladed lightsaber. Karnas wielded this weapon while utilizing Niman and Jar'Kai combined. Crowlis then began to train with basic aspects of Jar'Kai.
(3,689 BBY) After seven years of studying Niman, Crowlis became bored of the saber style, claiming it too slow, and highly vulnerable to attack from multiple blaster fire opponents. Karnas informed Crowlis that he was not far from mastering form VI and should continue to study it to mastery. With some deliberations, it was agreed Crowlis would study Niman on the side of Form IV, Ataru. Crowlis at this time, also altered his weapon of choice, switching to a double-bladed lightsaber.
(3,682 BBY (Training with Karnas)) Another seven years passed. During these years, Crowlis studied the Fourth form, Ataru. Convinced that this form suited himself the most, allowing the force to flow through him during combat whilst maintaining a great offence. Crowlis also continued to study Niman to mastery, just like his mentor. He also personalised Ataru, by combining aspects of Jar'kai, to accommodate for his double-bladed saber, and also aspects of Niman, to add a slight more defence to the fourth form.
(Late 3,682 BBY (Training with Kai'Rae)) Kai'Rae took Crowlis as her padawan. Soon after, the Great Galactic War began (3,681 BBY), initially denying Crowlis of any opportunity to further his knowledge of the forms. As Master and Padawan, they were thrown into two battles over the course of 2 years. The Battle of Sluis Van, and the Battle of Dathomir. It was after these battles, that Crowlis could further his training. He pressed Kai'Rae to further his knowledge of Ataru, as he considered it to be his signature form. Kai approved, and Crowlis's training of Ataru continued.
(3,671 BBY) Nine more years past, and during this time, Kai'Rae completed Crowlis' training of Ataru, and even perfected it, reaching mastery. The council held Crowlis in high regard afterword, claiming him to be the fastest Jedi to master form IV. It was with this, that the council decided that Crowlis had learnt all he could from his master, and that if Kai'Rae approved, Crowlis could take the trials for knighthood. However, Kai'Rae declined, claiming there was one last thing that she had left to teach him. Form VII, Juyo. There were few in the order that had learnt everything possible about form seven. Kai'Rae was one of the last Jedi in the order to have mastered it, and now she would pass her knowledge of it down to Crowlis.
(3,656 BBY) Fifteen years had passed, Kai'Rae had proceeded to train Crowlis the seventh form, Juyo. In the eyes of the council, Crowlis had mastered it to his best ability, but didn't formally designate Crowlis the title of Juyo Master. Whilst inside the temple with his master, the temple was bombed by the sith as the Sacking of Coruscant began.
(Late 3,656 - 3,655 BBY) Shortly after the treaty of coruscant was signed, the Cold War began. Crowlis Travelled to the small moon of Tython with other Jedi and joined the Knights of Sokan. It was there that Crowlis decided to further his knowledge of some of the other lightsaber forms. Between any missions he went on with the Knights of Sokan, Crowlis focussed his attention of the first form Shii-Cho, and the third form Soresu.
(3,623 BBY (Present Day) Crowlis trained in the Shii-Cho and Soresu for 32 long years. Upto this time, Crowlis perfected Juyo to mastery, alongside the Shii-Cho and Soresu. Even now, it is the forth form that Crowlis is known best for using, being known among his peers as the Ataru Master.
