Unexpected Encounter
This story is set in 8 ATC, a short time after The Chronicles of Darth Vicente: The Holocron.
Chapter One
The Investigation
Lord Vicente sat on his throne, drumming his fingers along the arm, Darth Lanfear standing by his side. The two of them were the only ones present in the council hall on-board The Lucrecia. He examined the holomap of Taris, trying to solve his problem.
A guild strike team had gone missing on Taris tracking down a Jedi. He wanted to find out what happened. "I don't trust anyone more than you," he told Lanfear. "I want to do this myself, but I can't. Consider it a part of your training." She looked at her master, sensing his tension. "Go to Taris, find out what happened. If they're dead, avenge them, if they've turned, kill them."
Lanfear bowed. "Your will be done, my lord."
"Report to me regularly," Vicente commanded. Just as Lanfear entered the tubolift, she saw the chairs of the council hall fill with holograms of most of the council. Once she made it to the docking bay, she ignored the simple courtesies of bowing and saluting she received and took her shuttle.
She entered the hyperspace coordinates, and watched the illusion of the stars stretching out to her.
Taris was a worthless rock as far as Lanfear was concerned, but it had it's uses as a great place to hide. She touched down and departed her shuttle. She thought she'd landed on solid ground, but no sooner than she stepped off the boarding ramp, her foot sank into mud.
"Kriffing swamp!" she swore, pulling herself free. She kept moving, heading in the direction where the strike team disappeared.
After two standard hours, she found an old camp. There were ten different sets of armor, and several rags strewn about the camp. She saw several skeletal remains, which she assumed were the result of the rakghouls. She knew that rakghouls wouldn't have overwhelmed the whole team, so she took a closer look. Just as Lord Vicente had expected, Lanfear found lightsaber burns on the armor. The best case scenario at this point was a Jedi team. The worst....
"Darth Lanfear," sounded a deep voice that echoed around the camp. She turned slowly, and was surprised to see Thane's apprentice, who had clearly replaced the hand she'd severed. He ignited both blades of his lightsaber. "We meet again."
"Darth Dvasia," she replied, igniting her own lightsaber. "Were you the one who did this?"
"No," he responded. "I've been following you. I'll make you pay for the loss of my arm." Lanfear's lightsaber collided with Dvasia's, and she could feel the hatred emanating from him.
"You seem to be doing just fine without it," she noted, trying to find leverage to beat him.
Dvasia out maneuvered her, however, and struck her in the ribs with his durasteel hand, causing her to drop her lightsaber. Her enemy took it, but before he could turn it on her, he was attacked by a wave of blaster fire from several sides.
The Sith Warrior turned and ran, and Lanfear pulled herself out of the mud.
"Are you okay, Ma'am?" someone asked. Lanfear looked and saw the Republic squad that attacked Dvasia, and carefully at the young Twi'lek who addressed her. They probably thought she was an enemy of the Sith.
Using the Force to enforce her words, she asked. "Where are the Jedi that attacked this team?"
The Twi'lek pointed towards his camp. "The Jedi left about a standard week ago. Not sure what she was after."
"She? There was only one?" Lanfear inquired.
"Yeah, but she went back to Tython. Left her protocol droid in the camp, she was in such a hurry."
"Give me the droid and I'll return it to her," Lanfear promised, using the Force to ensure obedience.
The droid turned out to be a T3 protocol unit. She took the droid to her ship and examined it. It looked nervously at her for a time. Lanfear considered downloading its memory, but that ran the risk of the droid downloading information from her shuttle. So instead, she ripped out it's memory core before hooking it up to her console. The information she wanted came up almost instantly.
"So, you're name is Jade Vonn?" She mused. "Where have I heard that name before?" Putting in the hyperspace coordinates, she waited. The route to Tython was a long one, and she would be in more danger there than she was on Taris.
Chapter Two
The Vengeful Jedi
Just before dropping out of hyperspace, she changed her transponder codes, and once she entered real space, she flew into Tython's atmosphere. She did her best to suppress her Force presence and landed on a small clearing in the forest.
Lanfear drew her cloak close as she entered the forest. She was no farther than a hundred steps in when she felt her body fly for several meters before hitting a large tree. As she slid down, she fumbled for her lightsaber, only to remember that Dvasia had taken it back in Taris. She grabbed a second weapon from her belt, igniting a pale, blue saber she'd taken from a Jedi some time before.
"I knew you'd come eventually, Sith," came a snide voice, filtered by a helmet. Lanfear looked around for a few seconds before spotting the Jedi. She wore a yellow Mandalorian mask and greenish gray armor, and held a bright, cyan lightsaber.
