"It seems so long ago now...like another life. A life that seemed so naïve now, so sheltered.
I thought I knew it all, as the arrogant man often does.
I was wrong, of course. So very wrong."
- Gideon Larrs, Tales of the E.P.O.C.H. Issue 00

Description:

Appearance:

Larrs is above average height with a strong, athletic build. Though he was physcially fit when he lived on Corellia, the years that followed and his quest for vengence kept him constantly in training when not hunting and he has maintained this level of fitness ever since. He is not an unhandsome man, but lacks any real features that make him stand out in a crowd, a look which Gideon uses to his advantage. Carrying himself with an exceptional confidence and deliberation of movement, he is almost always on edge which is discernable by anyone good at reading body language. His hair is always shaved for practicalities' sake (he cares little for what is 'in fashion' or other people's opinions of him) and he always has at least some degree of stubble about his chin. If there was anything about Larrs that was memorable, it would be his striking brown eyes; which are both enticing and cold all at once. What others might see as a positive feature of his, he tends to see as a liability and often covers them up behind visors, glasses or combat helms.

Distinctive Marks/Tattoos:

None

Languages:

Larrs speaks Galactic Basic only.

Equipment/Apparel:

Although Gideon does have a suit of navy blue Mandalorian Neo-Crusader armour he actually wears it only rarely, when going up against opponents he know have the capability to cause massive amounts of damage. The vast majority of the time Larrs wears unarmoured clothing, allowing him maximum mobility. His most common apparel is a grey military-style jacket over a white vest-top, some simple and durable black trousers and combat boots. Quite deliberately, he can vanish into a crowd with relative ease.

Starship:

Larrs 'owns' a heavily modified S-100 Stinger-Class Starfighter after he stole it from a private security hanger in Doaba Guerfel on Corellia when he left the planet in search of The Karaffgar. Since then it has undergone many improvements and modificiations, one of which being the removal of the original serial numbers and a complete re-identifaction matrix and even a paint-job to ensure it is never recognized.

Appearances in Fiction/Roleplay:

Tales of the E.P.O.C.H. Issue 00
Gideon is due to appear in Sins of The Mother

Personality:

Prior to the events leading up to his retribution-fuelled assassinations of Karrafgar agents, Gideon was a friendly and warm-hearted man, a devoted husband and a diligent worker. Although he had his faults (he could be stubborn, a tad over-sensitive of critism and over-protective of his wife and friends), he was generally a good man who was on the right track in life with a steady job and excellent home life.
When his wife was taken from him Gideon was at a loss and suffered a pychotic breakdown and, with no medical aid to help him, withdrew inside himself and became heavily depressed, dillusional and eventually violent.
After sating his revenge he found himself empty and devoid of joy, he became almost terminally serious whilst simultaniously turning bitter and jaded. These feelings have dulled over time but even now he is untrusting and pessimistic and will occasionally fall into fits of depression.

Relationships:

With the death of his wife and his acceptance into E.P.O.C.H. Gideon effectively severed all of his past connections of both family and friends. In many ways he sees them as dead as well, and to him, they may as well be. He does not trust easily and tends to keep people at arms length but beneath his cold exterior lies the remains of the man before and it is not unreasonable to assume that someone with enough dilligence and patience might see that other side of him, and become a friend he so desperately needs to rejoin society.
Generally speaking Gideon has a respect for anyone who is good at what they set out to do, and those who succeed in their endeavors. He has no time for dreamers or philosophers and believes actions speak louder than words. He has a lot of respect for Creed Dekkar and although he has had only limited interaction with other E.P.O.C.H. Agents, he considers Aleina Fel to be devious and does not trust her in the slightest.

Beliefs:

In the past Gideon believed that you could get by in the Galaxy without having to step on anyone, that you could live and love and face anything so long as you had someone to believe in. He doesn't feel that way anymore. With his belief system stripped from him, his outlook has changed; he no longer believes things happen for a reason, or than the Galaxy has plans. He doesn't believe in luck or fate or even that the universe means him harm. Instead, he believes it just doesn't care, that to get anywhere one must forge their own destiny, make their own luck. Everyone is a competitor for the top slot and its kill or be killed.

Goals and Ambitions:

Although he assures his employers at E.P.O.C.H. that he harbours no ill toward the The Karaffgar since they apologised to him publically, Larrs still holds some anger in his heart over the matter. To him, no amount of credits or apologies will ever truly be enough to compensate for the loss of his beloved J'neera. Though he does nothing to openly oppose the Crime Syndicate, he secretly indulges in activities to make their lives more difficult and would certainly look the other way if they approached him for help. In recent months he has begun to suspect that someone in the Agency has noticed his indiscretions but so far nobody has confronted him about it.

Apart from this, Larrs main goals lie in profit, that he might one day be able to pay his way back out of E.P.O.C.H. and thank them for all they've done for him. A part of him wonders whether he would ever go through with such a thing if the opportunity presented itself however, he has changed greatly over the last ten years.

He is not aware that another member of the Agency, Xen Raffini, is a former assassin and leader of The Karaffgar

History:

Time Line

Following are the pivotal points in Gideon's life up until the present:

Early life & Upbringing

Gideon was the only child born to Drolar and Heshini Larrs in the small town of Bela Vistal on the Core World of Corellia. An active and friendly child he had a warm sense of humour and never had problems making both simple aqauinatances or long-term friends. When he was seven Gideon had to move home when his father's job (which was a Land Speeder mechanic) relocated the entire family to Daoba Guerfel, though the exclusive resort-town was known as 'Nomad's Retreat' at that time. Life was good there for the Larrs family, although they were on the lowest rung of the high society that frequented the town, their lifestyle was still more comfortable and enjoyable than the harder life they led in Bela Vistal.
Being as easy to adapt as he was, Gideon had no real issues changing schools and it did not take him long to fit in with his new surroundings, make new friends and generally settle in. He made many good friends during his years in education, one of which would end up being a future love and eventually wife; J'neera Dane.

Adulthood

"Things were good back then, everything seemed so much brighter..." - Gideon Larrs, "The New Guy" Webcomic.

Gideon grew from child to man with all the trappings that entails but led an otherwise unremarkable and content life. His further education went well, he showed an aptitude with mechanics and joined his father working in his workshop when he completed his tuition years. He fell in love and married his one-time sweetheart J'neera Dane and, although they were unable to have children the pair were happy and devoted to one another, living in a modest appartment not far from Gideons' parents. The two wed, and Gideon went from working for his father to working with him, becoming a partner in his Land Speeder worshop.
When Gideon's father grew ill and eventually passed away, he took over the business full time and his wife and he moved into the family home to care for his mother, though she lasted but a year after her husband before passing away peacefully in her sleep. After a time of mourning and rememberance Gideon & J'neera sold their appartment and used the money to renovate the house that had begun to delapidate since his parents were too old to maintain it.

"Everything decays....everything falls apart." - Gideon Larrs, "The New Guy" Webcomic.

Gideon and J'neera's near-perfect life was torn asunder when J'neera was mistakingly killed in a random raid by a criminal organisation known as The Karaffgar, who got the wrong house and murderered her believing her to be somebody else while Gideon was at work in the shop. Coming home to find his wife dead, Gideon simply broke down and went into a deep state of shock. Locking all the doors, removing all communication consoles inside his home and shutting himself away from the world, Gideon effectively closed himself away from the pain and became psychologically damaged. It took weeks before authorities came calling by which time his wife had began to rot and he was ill from malnutrition. With his family dead and J'neera's family off-world he was taken into care and his business sold to pay for medical expenses. For five long years he languished in therapy, hardly able to speak until the last few months.

"It took me five long years, but at last I had caught up with them.
They had taken everything from me. Now I was about to return the favour."
- Gideon Larrs, "The New Guy" Webcomic.

Eventually he was released, his physicians convinced that apart from a slight case of depression, he was otherwise fit to return to society. Unfortunately for them, in his seclucsion Gideon had become very good at lying, even to himself. The years in solitary had fueled his rage and need for vengence to almost perfectly focused levels and, upon his release he laid low for a week working under the assumption he was being monitored, then investigated his wife's murderers. Through spending the vast majority of his remaining money and consorting with less than legal contacts his hunt brought him to the Core World of Coruscant and a local safehouse for his prey, who now had a name - The Karaffgar.
When the moment came Gideon found he had no fear left in him, just a serene calmness as he entered the building with twin blaster pistols and set about systematically assassinating the eight Karaffgar agents he found inside. He didn't know if they were the ones who had done the deed but by that point he was beyond such details, he was working on an eye-for-and-eye basis.

"You give me what you've got....plus you owe us a favour.
When we come calling, be ready.
" - Creed Dekkar, "The New Guy" Webcomic.

Unfortunately for Gideon it seemed the Karaffgar didn't take kindly to vigilantes and despite his going to ground hounded him for the next four years with multiple attempts on his life. Though resourceful and cunning, Gideon was able to stay alive but the agents of the crime syndicate seemed never-ending and in the end he turned to his contacts once again for aid. This time he was given instructions to meet a man who could help and Gideon agreed to the meeting. The man was Creed Dekkar, a high-ranking member of a secret organisation known only as The E.P.O.C.H. Agency and, although Gideon was almost broke by this point, Creed agreed to help him for what little money he had remaining and the fulfillment of a "Favour" of his chosing, telling Gideon to go into hiding and await futher instructions, which he did.
Three weeks after the initial meeting Gideon was becoming restless and was visited by a grey-skinned, dark haired Hapan woman who he would later discover to be Aleena Fel who came to him with a datapad signed by the leaders of the Karaffgar saying he was officially pardoned and no longer a target of theirs. Although he was never sure how the EPOCH Agency achieved such a task, he was grateful and finally able to come out of hiding.
It was mere hours however before Creed appeared and called in the 'favour'. Gideon, unable to pay most of the fee the Agency would normally charge would now work for them, for an undisclosed period of time until Creed was satisfied the debt was repaid. Gideon, who had no life left to miss saw the events as an opportunity and has been with the Agency ever since.
