Biography
Of Noble Decent
"He has learned all we could teach him, Master Jedi." -Idu's Father.
"How much did he learn?" -Unknown Jedi
"Our entire relevant history."
Before Idu could even walk, A Jedi master had arrived on Ithor, looking for a Jedi hopeful, a child sensitive to the force. He most certainly found what he wanted, if not a few years early. Idu was barely 2 years old when a Jedi arrived at his home. After hearing the news of their son's force sensitivity, they asked a favor of the Jedi. "Please, give us time to raise him, to teach him of our people, our language, and our world. Please allow us this, before he is taken from us". Feeling the parent's distress, the Jedi made them the promise that he would return in a few years to take Idu to become a Jedi.
"It is confusing, Sir. As I walked through the streets, the presence I felt was that of a much older child, but he was not much more than a baby. Perhaps we have a promising candidate?".
"If this is true, a promising candidate, indeed."
For the next 3 years, Idu was raised, instructed, and most of all, prepared for what was to come. His parents weren't exactly pleased. Idu was to become a Noble on Ithor, a respected politician. Instead their dreams for him were dashed by a man in robes. Nonetheless, they taught everything he needed to know for the life ahead of him, honoring the Jedi's promise as best as possible. On 14 BTC, on the day of his birth, Idu and his family were celebrating his 5th birthday, along with the locals and the extended family. The Jedi arrived during the celebrations and was invited to stay and join in the festivities. The birthday party had just become a 'going away' party. Still, the Ithorians celebrated until nightfall. The next day, Idu bid his family goodbye, and left for Coruscant. His family, depressed over the loss of their future noble, then discovered a surprise: His mother was pregnant. No longer did Idu's parents mourn over the loss of nobility, but instead celebrated the journey that lie ahead of their son.
As a Youngling
Like any other Jedi, he went through the basic youngling training. During this time period, he met other Jedi, trained in the ways of the force and swordplay and studied the history and ways of the Jedi. Unlike most other prospective Jedi, however, he had never aspired to be a Jedi. As long as he could remember he knew he would be a Jedi. With that embedded in his mind he displayed an impressive level of patience. He knew for a fact he would become a Jedi in time, and that he should be patient. This was a skill very few younglings could achieve. His spare time was always spent studying ancient texts and holocrons. He rarely expressed interest in training his saber skills, instead using his time to study in secrecy. His teachers soon began to dismiss him as a negligent student and focused on teaching the other students. They did not know how smart they were in doing so.
Finally, a day came that allowed Idu a chance to stand out: a non-lethal fighting tournament amongst the younglings. The rules: Training sabers only, no directly offensive force powers, the usual. Idu's first opponent went down quick, his mistake: exhausting all of his energy on offense rather than defense. Idu bode his time, easily defending against his opponents fierce shii-cho. However, it wasn't long before he made a critical error and Idu struck. Baffled at the result, his teachers approached him and asked: "Where did you learn to fight like that?", he casually responded: "After studying the various forms, I found the form you were teaching us to be too single-minded. Instead I found a form that would suit me in any situation no matter what, Niman.".
The combat instructor went to the grand master and asked him if his teaching methods were adequate, explaining the situation. He responded, explaining that his methods were perfect. The teaching of Shii-Cho is easy, because it is a simple, yet effective form. By teaching this form, the students can choose to study and perfect a proven form. However, the students who choose to study other forms do so for their own reasons. Understanding why they did what they did can show alot about their character. The fact that Idu had chosen to study the diplomatic form over Shii-Cho was expected from the beginning, but his reasons for doing so were incredibly well thought-out. This was not a decision made lightly, but rather, a decision made through logic and wisdom.
After the tournament, whispers began floating around about Knights looking for Padawans amongst the younglings. A recently knighted Jedi walked into Idu's room. The Jedi was a skilled swordsman, a Jedi Gaurdian if there ever was one. Sadly, however, he chose his Padawan for the wrong reason: He believed Idu to be the most skilled swordsman amongst the younglings. On the contrary, Idu would eventually be known as one of the least proficient swordsman of his group of younglings. This is not to say that he was a bad swordsman, just that the rest of his group mostly became Gaurdians or Sentinals, both focusing more on swordplay than on Idu's path. Idu's new master was in for another surprise however, one he never could have anticipated.
Under Ploombo-Yu
"I hear Ploombo-Yu took the force prodigy of the class under his wing. Don't you find that a bit odd?"
"No. In fact I find it incredibly wise, even if it was a mistake. He will learn more with Idu as his apprentice then he ever learned from his own master."
Ploombo-Yu was an Ongree Jedi Knight, who passed his trials almost entirely by accident. One of the strangest Jedi to have been Knighted, Ploombo-Yu displayed a great affinity with "Luck". To a Jedi, there is no luck, only the force. However, the Force has occasionally been described as 'having a sense of humor'. This was the closest thing to the Truth in Ploombo's case. His fighting style was a seamless mesh of Niman and Shii-Cho, accentuating the Shii-Cho variants in his Niman style. He was always a master of Soresu and eventually began teaching it to Idu. His fighting style was both a combination of hilarious and inspiring. His well-placed strikes and parries, as well as his lighting reflexes and counter-attacks, served as example for all Jedi to strive for. However, in between his incredible swordplay were slip-ups, trips, falls, spills, and even the occasional misdirection. The strange part was that the tumbles and slips flowed seamlessly with his incredible swordsmanship, almost as though he had planned to slip and fall during a fight or like he turned the wrong way for a reason. One thing was for sure, he didn't even realize he was slipping-up, or at elast, he didn't tell anyone he did. Whether he did it on purpose or accidentally is a mystery to everyone except him and his padawan.
In the beginning of Idu's training under Yu, he pushed him hard with lightsaber drills and physical workout. It wasn't long before Idu began skipping the occasional training sessions to study in the archives. Ploombo-Yu believed him to be slacking off and soon began to treat him like a lazy student. Yu began to grow displeased with his Padawan and began dismissing his absences. Finally, the day came, their first assignment. There was a Quarren merchant, believed to be working for a Galaxy-Wide crime syndicate who was harassing the other merchants, eventually at gunpoint. He hired mercenaries and locked down the entire merchant quarter, threatening not to allow any trade to occur unless he got a cut. Naturally, no one wanted to pay him. The council felt this would be a perfect mission to get Yu and Idu to bond properly.
The pair arrived on Onderon to see it's people in chaos. Food was becoming scarce and fear ran rampant. When they arrived, the merchant and his mercenaries had also taken control of the starport. When Ploombo-Yu asked the gaurds to be let in, they led him straight to the Merchants office. They walked into a strange room, with a long dining table in it. Gaurds were standing around the table against the walls, the merchant sitting at the other end of the table, eating. He asked if the Republic had "sent it's dogs to cut a deal with him". Ploombo-Yu responded sharply, "No. We came to ask you to stop what you're doing". Idu put his hand to his face, knowing this couldn't end well. The Quarren spat out (literally) a few words about respect from the Republic and how much of it he deserved. He ended his rant by asking the guards to "take the Jedi to the force cells". They approached with blasters raised, Ploombo-Yu ignited his lightsaber, Idu put one hand to his face again. Idu looked at the guards and waved his hand, "You all know that this is wrong, and you know that you belong in the ranks of the republic, where your skill with your blasters can be put where it belongs".
A moment later, Ploombo and Idu walked out of the building with the guards following close behind with the Quarren on a rope. The guards went to the other mercenaries and explained what they had learned. They all gave up their live's of crime, most of which joined the Republic. The rest became merchants or disappeared.
With this great victory, and display of Idu's knowledge of The Force, Ploombo-Yu asked a great favor of Idu: To teach him in the ways of The Force as he had learned, and to learn about swordplay from him. From that day forward, they each taught each other what they knew, forming a bond unlike any other.
((Still alot more to come!!))
