Torin Darmax

Torin Darmax was a Corellian Jedi born toward the end of the Great War. He is most known for his brave actions during the Sacking of Coruscant where Torin helped to evacuate a number of Jedi younglings. Utilizing a combination of both Form III: Soresu and Form V: Shien, Torin has shown the ability to weather almost any attack he faces.

History

Pre-Jedi Order

Torin was born to a normal family living in Coronet City, capital city of Corellia. Though he doesn’t remember a time when he was not in the Jedi Order, Torin was told that he was a happy child. Always smiling, Torin was easily recognized by his wavy black hair even in his youth. However, Torin’s life changed one day when he was just a small toddler. After falling and scraping his knee while playing in his home, Torin began to cry for his parents. Hearing his cries they quickly rushed to console him, but were surprised to see objects throughout the room shaking and moving about. Being a cheerful baby, Torin’s crying didn’t last long and the room soon settled back into tranquility. His parents, after understanding what they had seen, contacted the Jedi Order to investigate their son. Within a week, a Jedi had been dispatched to the Darmax household and Torin was on his path to becoming a Jedi Knight. Torin had found out later, that his mother and father, although sad to lose him, we’re incredibly proud of their child and had asked that if he ever asked about them, this is what he was to be told.

Time as a Youngling

Over the next few years Torin’s outward appearance changed. He grew taller, became stronger, and his hair somehow managed to get a bit shaggier; he was growing up. However, his personality never changed and many of the other younglings and Jedi noted Torin’s light-hearted and cheerful nature. His calm confidence helped him to progress in the use of the Force a bit easier than some of the other younglings. Torin wasn’t more skilled in the Force than others, it was simply that his laid back nature made it easier for him to calm his mind and let the force flow through him. Through progressing well in his training, Torin did have problems with his healing abilities. Most of the other teachings came naturally to him, but Torin struggled with healing throughout the entirety of his training, eventually causing his focus to turn from trying to develop these powers, to instead training harder on defense, both in combat and through the Force. He thought that if he learned to protect himself and others well enough, there would be no need for him to have to heal. This would eventually lead to his proficiency in Form III: Soresu.

It wasn’t until years later that Torin did ask one of his Jedi teachers about his family and home. His teacher, after speaking with the council, informed Torin of exactly what his parents had asked; that he was born on Corellia and that they were so very proud of him. Truly happy with his parents’ message, Torin never tried to find out more about them. Instead Torin developed a tremendous amount of pride for his heritage as a Corellian and a Corellian Jedi. In later years it wasn’t uncommon to find him in the libraries studying the past exploits of Corellia or the Jedi of his home planet. It was in these studies that Torin found his love of history and lore. Torin learned as much as he could over the next few years by embracing his lessons during the day and studying in the Jedi library at night. Soon his boundless curiosity sent him past the library and to the knowledge of others. Torin would often wait for the Jedi returning from their missions during the war, hoping to hear stories of their adventures and to learn from these exploits. Of these Jedi, one Corellian Jedi took a liking to the young boy, telling him stories of his missions and teaching him the Jedi arts. This was the Jedi Knight Seth Praxon.

Forging of Friendship

Seth Praxon enjoyed the young boy’s company, often indulging Torin’s curiosity by telling him stories of his travels. It was in these stories that Torin acquired his attraction to the Form V: Djem So lightsaber style, which was Seth’s personal style. In addition to the stories, Seth sometimes returned from his adventures with Jedi relics, which he secretly let Torin examine before turning them into the council. Seth explained to Torin that there was an untold amount of Jedi knowledge lost throughout the ages. It was in this moment that Torin decided to devote a side of his life to seeking out and recovering this lost knowledge.

Eventually, it became easy to see the bond growing between the Seth and Torin. When Seth returned from his missions, they were inseparable. Torin couldn’t wait to show Seth what he had learned since his last visit, and Seth would continue to tell Torin stories and give him tips on his lightsaber form.

After a few months had passed, Seth came to visit Torin before a mission. He told Torin that, though he was a younger Jedi Knight, the Jedi Council seeing the bond between the two, had granted him permission to take on Torin as a padawan learner upon the return from his latest mission. Seth informed Torin that he probably should not have told him until after the mission but thought Torin would enjoy the news. He also told Torin that he would have a gift for him when he returned.

The next few weeks flew by for Torin as if he was in a trance. Normally light-hearted, he was even happier than he had been before. Seth would return soon and Torin would become a padawan learner. Torin remembered all the stories Seth had told him, all the people he had protected, all the lives he had changed; the amazing selflessness of a Jedi Knight. It was difficult for Torin to sleep during those weeks, but he somehow always managed to calm his mind eventually.

The First Awakening

One of those nights of sleep was cut abruptly short. Torin awoke with a start felling that something was wrong. He felt as if something was missing. Recalling his training, Torin reached out with the Force, feeling that everything was in its place and the other younglings were fast asleep. But still he felt as if something was gone. Then Torin sensed someone approaching the door, and quietly one of the Jedi Masters entered the room. Before the door was even open the Master’s focus was on the now awake Torin. It was in this moment that Torin suspected what had happened. He followed the Jedi Master outside where the master told the young boy that the Jedi Knight Seth Praxon had fallen in battle. The master explained that Praxon had fallen into a Sith trap along with many of the other Jedi who had participated in the battle. He informed Torin that he knew there was a bond between them, but Torin must guard against his feelings of sadness and fear.

Torin understood, he was saddened at the loss of his friend and would-be mentor, but over the next few days he had transformed these feelings into determination, a determination to making Seth Praxon proud of him. This was a powerful lesson for Torin. He learned to transform his emotions, most often into further devotion in his cause, which would later in life give him the traits of being dogged, persistent, and incredibly loyal.

Torin returned to his training, focusing more and more on his abilities in protection, becoming a stronger fighter. Throughout all of this, Torin never lost his cheer. After a week or so, Torin received a package from a Jedi Master. The package had belonged to Jedi Knight Seth Praxon and was addressed to Torin. The master informed Torin that the box had been found along with Seth’s belongings after the battle. Torin slowly opened the package to reveal a new set of green robes.

The Sacking of Coruscant:The Second Awakening

Things continued as usual for Torin over the next few months. Then everyone got the news that the Great War was coming to an end, a peace treaty was to be signed on Alderaan. Torin went to sleep that night believing he would awaken to a peaceful galaxy the next morning.

However, Torin again awoke with a start. His thoughts immediately jumped to memories of his last awakening. Within a few moments he realized that this time was much different. Almost everyone was already awake. After a few seconds a Jedi Knight came rushing into the room. He shouted that the Sith had launched a surprise attack and that he was here to get the Younglings to safety. Torin quickly gathered his belongings and put on his green robes before following the others out into the halls. Within the next few moments the younglings along the Jedi Knight were outside of the temple. That’s when the orbital bombardment began. Within seconds of leaving the temple Torin was blinded by a flash of brilliant white. When he could finally open his eyes again, Torin was lying on his back, and what he saw was something he would never forget. Thousands of Sith attack ships and drops ships littered the sky. Explosions and blaster fire were now the only things blanketing the once bustling skies of Coruscant.

Once his head was cleared Torin got up to discover that he could find only a handful of the Younglings and that the Jedi Knight that led them out of the temple, was nowhere in sight. What he did notice were several Sith dropships heading for the temple. Torin gathered the rest of the Younglings in an attempt to flee to the far side of the temple. As Torin led the Younglings away from the battle, hundreds of Jedi rushed by them, racing into battle with the Sith attackers.

Soon the Younglings found a transport vessel for evacuation near the far side of the Temple. The three Jedi guarding it ushered the Younglings on board as quickly as possible. Torin was the last one aboard, stopping by the entrance ramp to observe the Jedi. The three were discussing something in the distance, though Torin couldn’t hear them nor see what they were talking about. Calmly, Torin reached out with his feelings, but there was too much chaos, and he couldn’t focus, but he didn’t have to. Torin was finally able to see the enormous group of Sith heading for the shuttle. After a moment of thought, one of the three Jedi turned and ran for the shuttle, passing by Torin and racing for the cockpit. As the shuttle began to take off the Jedi closed the cargo doors. The last glimpse Torin got of the planet’s surface before the doors closed, was two Jedi, racing toward an unbelievable number of Sith.

That shuttle, evacuated Coruscant, and eventually took Torin to the Knights of Sokan.
