"The day one realizes he is Force sensitive, can integrate himself into the fabrics of our very history any way he so chooses, is not only the most liberating day of his life, but the most terrifying"
-Introduction to Jedi training holocron.

Xeros Lark was a Human Jedi Knight who was born and raised on the planet Dantooine.  During his early childhood, he was sent off to Coruscant for a chance at education, and later became a doctor of incredible skill and precision.  After recieving his doctoral diplomas at the age of 20, Xeros was one of the few doctors who agreed to go to Tython, home-world of the Jedi, and lend his skills to those who needed them most.  During an investigation conducted by two Jedi, who later asked for his help in their search, the young doctor discovered his hidden Force potential, and from then on trained to become a Jedi.

Although late in his Jedi upbringing, Xeros did manage to attain the rank of Jedi Knight sometime before he reached 29.  Though he would later train various apprentices of both varing backgrounds and future deeds, his true recognition lies within his many holocrons, all of which were handed over to his most trusting Jedi friend shortly after his death.  With these holocrons, besides his own Jedi teachings,  Xeros imparted his knowledge of humanoid, bestial and extra-terrestrial anatomy and physiology, all of which would prove vital for future doctors, medics and Jedi alike for years to come

History

Cave Birth

Just hours before she was expected to begin birthing, Diana Lark and her husband, Crowe Lark, were attacked by a small band of thugs who decided to take over their tiny farm. Forcing Diana to flee, Crowe stayed back to buy her time and managed to kill two of the thugs with a small blaster before being gunned down himself. Running as fast as her bloated body would allow, something drew Diana to a nearby cave she had never noticed until then. She later recalled feeling summoned to that cave, as if something was kindly guiding her to shelter. Miraculously making it into the cave before any of the surviving thugs saw her, the poor woman had managed to survive at the cost of her dear husband.

Sitting herself down in the heart of the cave, it was during her post-traumatic shock that her water broke. After eighteen brutal hours, Diana finally gave birth to her only son, whom she named Xeros, as in him having "Zero" chance of survival with the thugs outside.  When she finally looked at her surroundings, the woman realized she was in one of Dantooine's legendary crystal caverns! Upon her son's birth, all of the nearby crystals began to glow radiantly, each one slowly opening the newborn child to the vastness of the Force.

The Jump to Coruscant

Despite his namesake, both Diana and Xeros survived the thugs' attack, though Diana would begin to rapidly fall into insanity over the loss of her husband.  However, as Xeros himself would later speculate, the same crystal power which opened him up to the Force may have actually permantently damaged her brain cells, her insufficient Midi-chlorian levels unable to bear the saturation of the Force within the cave.  Feeling herself slipping into madness, and knowing its eventual outcome, Diana sent young Xeros to Coruscant at the age of twelve, where he would spend the rest of his childhood under the care of his Uncle Roy, a surgeon of only mediocre reputation and skill.  Ironically, the young boy was only miles away from the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, and yet he would never learn the ways of the Jedi from this beacon of the Force.

As the years went by, he quickly rose through the grades of education, as well as watched his uncle at work, quickly giving him an interest and foresight into the fields of anatomy and medicine.  These interests, coupled with his Force-driven abilities to learn at an almost uncanny rate, had him acquireing all of his necessary doctoral degrees by the age of 20.  Although greatly overjoyed, the young man couldn't help but feel as if there was more he could accomplish.  As luck would have it, or perhaps the guiding hand of the Force in action again, it was only a few months after gaining his diplomas that the Coruscant Medical Board began drumming up recruits for the migration to Tython.  Seeing this as a chance to do the best amount of good, Xeros readily volunteered.

Discovery at Tython

"What? Why not request one of the Jedi Knights or Apprentices to aid us, there is no reason to involve this Xeros Lark."  "Because by helping us, I feel our young friend will in turn help himself to an extent that will, in the end, help us once again."  - Jedi Knights Diana Ginn and Dur-Ma Shin arguing about seeking Xeros' aid

Over the next eight months, Xeros found himself stationed at a Tython settlement very close to the reinhabited Jedi Temple where he performed his medical skills with impressive efficiency.  In those last two months, however, the number of nearly-fatal wounded was quickly rising.  On the very day he decided he should take the necessary steps required to bring this matter to the Mayor of the settlement, he was contacted by two human Jedi Knights, one male and one female, about the very same problem.  After a short discussion on the issue and his involvement with the two Jedi, the young doctor agreed to help them in their search.  After searching the bodies of slaughtered Bantha, insane townsmen and even a Jedi Apprentice, the culprit was revealed to be a sect of long-forgotten Dark Jedi spirits whose influence had once again been brought forth by the recent migrations.  Once discovered, these spirits were quickly put to rest, but more importantly Xeros' hidden Force abilities finally manifested themselves when he was able to repulse two attacking spirits.

It was here that Xeros Lark abandoned his role as a doctor and took upon the mantle of Jedi.

A Passing of the Torch

His advanced potential with the Force now clear to Diana Ginn, the female Knight with whom Xeros had helped route the dark spirits, the Jedi knew his skills would be needed in the up and coming conflicts she had glimpsed in her Farsight.  After taking it upon herself to teach the newfound Padawan, Diana moved the both of them into a secluded forest on Tython so that they may train in absolute secrecy.  It was there Diana revealed to Xeros that she was slowly dying, and truly did not know how long she was going to last.  However, she sensed the skills and knowledge she had would be well-placed in his care, hence why she chose him to become her Apprentice.  With her time unpredictably short, Diana devised a way to transfer her knowledge over to Xeros in a much shorter time then necessary, albeit this method would be extremely dangerous to both of them, more importantly Xeros.  By attuning her Force energies as close to his as she could, the Knight effectively formed a Force Bond with her student.  Using this Bond, which had been made most famous by the exploits of redeemed Sith Lord Darth Revan, Diana began to channel her knowledge of life, the Force, and all things important to the Jedi, through a series of rigorous sessions.  Within barely a month's time, Diana Ginn had successfully imparted knowledge of Form IV, Form III, Form I and Form V (It would later be through his own interests that various other saber skills would learned).  Yet, this remarkably fast training had two major drawbacks: the knowledge would only make itself known to him in short bursts as his own experiences grew, and it had also left Diana in a vegitative state.

Incredibly distraught over what had happened, as well as the strange coldness that came from their Force Bond becoming severed, it was shortly after this event that Xeros Lark experienced his spiritual trial which would forever define him as a Jedi Consular.  Although still saddened by the fate of his master, whom he loved as if she were his sister or a lover, he would be damned if he would let her sacrifice go to waste.  His future musings about her mysterious illness would help doctors centuries later discover symptoms to the plague known as Death Seed.

A Knight in Padawan Shoes

In the first days after the complete transfer, Xeros could feel himself becoming spiritually hollow, possibly an adverse effect to having the Force Bond, however small it was between them, being rapidly severed by Diana's vegitation.  Knowing this hollowing would eventually lead to darkness, the young Jedi resorted to the only means of redemption he had, constant meditation.  Gently taking Diana Ginn's lightsaber from her body, he vowed he would not leave the sacred training grounds in the forest until he was restored, whethe

r it be in light or in darkness.  For twelve nights Xeros resigned himself to every form of metitation he was taught by his master, as well as other forms he had learned in his earlier life through other people.  Finally, on the eve of his twelfth night, with the full moon watching him from above, he had his spiritual epiphany.

As he would later recall in one of his few holocrons, his "vision" had brought him into a pale, never-ending hallway, himself caught somewhere along the way.  On each side of the hallway, statues of Sith Lords looked down at him, each one containing their very threads of anger, sadness or fear.  Behind him stood all the Dark Lords of days past, from the more recent, to the old such as Darth Malak and Sion, and continued in this fashion until he could no longer recognize their names or importance.  Ahead of him rested the statues of future Sith who would cause bloodshed, sorrow and fear through their own ways.  He later admitted he originally believed he was to join the Dark Side, after being confronted with the harsh truth that nothing he nor any other Jedi here did would prevent the Darth line from continuing.  Yet, as he walked forward into the hall, there was one statue which called to him more than any other.  The man he saw eminated feral viciousness coupled with a chilling adeptness in precise killing.  He was a leader who had killed many, and yet was killed by his own apprentice at the peak of his power.  Although he was no Malak or Revan, there were so many whose lives would become so much better if he had never existed at all.  And his name was Darth Primus.  Horrified, Xeros realized this could be him one day, all that was needed was for him to give in to his fears and anger.  The moment he realized the true identity of this Darth Primus as his own, the young Jedi was ejected from this "Hall of the Sith," as he would later call it, and returned to the hallowed forest grounds.  In a single night, like many epiphanies, Xeros realized the steps he must take in order to prevent himself from ever taking the title of Darth Primus.

Inspiration, confidence and center now in hand, the young Jedi took the body of his Jedi Master and returned to the Jedi Temple.

Homeward Bound

For the next seven to eight months, Xeros experienced a period of very little Force Potential progression.  In fact, there had been times where he was to be considered for the Jedi Service Corps, though each time some Jedi Instructor or another pushed against it for the fact that the only thing holding him back was the lack of a proper Master.  This problem was rectified in the waxing years of 22 ATC, when Jedi Master Amaya Krin sought his help in a farming dispute on Dantooine.  Although conflicted with his past and the obligations of his future, the young man weighed his options and decided on the latter.

Personality and Traits

"You're either incredibly brave, incredibly stupid, or both." "Why can't I just be incredibly curious?"

-Xeros Lark and a Republic trooper before setting off for a mission

Dutifully loyal to those he called friend, Xeros was known to lay down everything within his mental and physical arsenal for the needs of those he cared for.  Although this trait was sometimes abused by less-than gracious people, he remained true to this belief even until his eventual death.  Yet, dutiful loyalty was not absolute loyalty, a fact he showed on numerous occasions when people asked him to betray his own beliefs for their sake.  Above all, Xeros believed the only trust that could not be broken is the truth within one's self.

For Xeros, the most effective way to treat a patient was to remain open with them, not shut away in cold duty.  As such, he often had a habit of connecting with his patients, race, age and gender aside, even if they were terminally ill.  Although this practice was looked down upon as foolish by higher ranking doctors and Jedi, it was one thing that Xeros felt kept him human.  Even outside of his medical work, he often found himself bonding quickly with friends, Masters, and Apprentices, and sharing his experience or counsel with them when they sought it.  Even though it was highly discouraged, his feelings of friendship would sometimes turn romantic, though only if that woman was single and shared view not unlike his own.

Although kindness was one of his prime motives in life, Xeros was always ready to defend himself and those he loved.  Whether it be through the Force or lightsaber, he would do whatever it took to ensure the safety of innocents around him, even if it meant the cost of his own livelihood.  While certainly able to do combat, it was apart of his moral code to always seek non-violent ways of handling a situation when such methods could be found, as had been instilled upon him by Diana Ginn and then his later Masters to come.

Above all, like many Jedi Consular before him, was the ever-burning desire to learn and grow.  By the time he reached the rank of Jedi Knight, knowledge was a favorite pass-time, and almost always was there a holo-disk, datapad, or map on his person.  It was from the knowledge he sought to acquire that most of his advice towards those willing to listen came from, and more often than not such advice prove helpful in some way or another.

Powers and Abilities

"How is it you know where to strike them every time?"  "Their weakest points seem to glow faintly, even if they wear the thickest of armors.  Though, in that case, it becomes a matter of removing the armor."

-Xeros Lark and a fellow Jedi Knight commenting on his uncanny ability with Shiak strikes.

Having been trained as a doctor since he was only a teenager, Xeros' understanding of anatomy for many of the Galaxy's species is considerably greater than that of a normal person, or many Jedi for that matter.  This fact, coupled with his later years of Jedi training, naturally lent him a hand in becoming a Jedi Healer, a task he performed amicably until the day of his eventual death.  Unlike some Jedi Healers, however, Xeros could perform extensive triage, minor surgury and field care without overt usage of the Force.  Also, his extensive medical background gave him deeper insight into herbology, and which forms of flora could and could not be used to effectively help the patient.

Coupled with his knowledge of anatomy came a unique Force trait which allowed him to zone in on an opponents most disarming body parts like limb joints, tendons, ligaments and various organs.  Much later speculated to be a unique variation of the Shatterpoint ability, unique in that it would only sense the weak spots of a body and nothing else, this skill proved a valuable asset to the Jedi when performing Shiak, Shiim, and various Cho maneuvers.  Although this "Shatterpoint" would show him the location of vital organs as well, he made effort to ignore these signs, lest he be tempted by darker intentions to quickly slay his opponent.  While this did give him an advantage in lightsaber combat, this ability was most often used to show the Jedi where a friend was most critically wounded before he laid a finger on them.

In lightsaber combat, Xeros had become familiar with various forms, but the two he most often prefered were Ataru and Double-Bladed, and sometimes an unorthodox combination of the two.  Although Double-Bladed was his most prefered, Xeros was skilled enough in Jar'Kai to use two seperate lightsabers with deadily efficiency.  While he could use a single lightsaber, as he had done for most of his initial training years, Soresu and Ataru were only effective forms he could use, with Ataru being prefered for his Double-Bladed variant.

Being a Jedi Consular, Lark had mastered a variety of Force powers, most if not all of which were used in his arsenal of diplomatic and combat maneuvers.  While most of his mastered Force abilities were based upon the art of Healing, the abilities to enhance running, jumping, and other bodily movements were embraced whole-heartedly.

Finally, and most peculiarly, were the sudden remembrances of Diana's imparted teaching.  Sporadic in their coming, this knowledge would only reveal itself at points in time when Xeros had engaged in an action or meditation similar, if not exact, to the knowledge being imparted.  Also, this knowledge did not incorporate with muscle-memory, meaning that even though he would instantaenously learn parts of combat Forms, they were not instantly mastered.  Although it was through this method Xeros Lark would learn Ataru, Soresu and Shien, he would later master Ataru and Soresu only through dedicated practice, with Shien being trained in correspondance with Jar'Kai.
